Hi I’m Bess!
I’m formally Elizabeth, but known as Bess since I was little, I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters of Social Work.
With a strong passion for social justice and healing, I have worked predominately in the community sector over the last 20 years. In this time I have worked alongside people with varying intersections of disadvantage including women and gender diverse folks, people with diverse cultural backgrounds, First Nations folk, those from refugee backgrounds, young people and neuro divergent folks.
Curious about the body and holistic healing, I became an accredited yoga teacher in 2009 and have now facilitated yoga and meditation for over 15 years in various contexts including yoga studios, community classes and gyms.
In 2018 I completed facilitator training in Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga to safety share the benefits of yoga with those who may not otherwise have access to it. I have since offered TCTSY as part of counselling and in group settings.
I am passionate about both the healing and recovery that can happen at an individual level when we address experiences of trauma and resistance, but also acknowledging violence and oppression as social issues that must be addressed through social change.
I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), a Level 2 member with Yoga Australia and a Accredited facilitator of Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga. I am also a mother, partner, dog lover, garden and cooking enthusiast.
Based in Meanjin (Brisbane), I am currently offering Zoom, phone and in-person sessions on the south side of Brisbane. Please head over to my contact page to find out more about how we might work together.
